Local Organisers: Mr Daryll Baker and Dr Marilena Loizidou It is with great pleasure that we invite you to the 2010 Annual Meeting of the Society of Academic and Research Surgery (SARS), to be hosted by the Division of Surgery and Interventional Science, UCL Medical School, at the Royal Free Campus, London. We have organised a full and exciting programme. We have kept the meeting to the highly successful 2-day format pioneered last year. The packed scientific programme includes symposia on "Nanotechnology and Stem Cell Regenerative Medicine", "Preconditioning in Liver Surgery" and an "Update in Clinical Trials". We are delighted to continue as hosts for the Association of Surgeons in Training (ASIT) symposia and the Section of Academic Urology of BAUS. The prestigious Patey Prize sessions will take place over the 2 days of the meeting. There will be presentations of prize-winning papers from our sister surgical research societies from the USA, South Africa and Europe. The Royal Free Hospital is situated in Hampstead, one of London's most fashionable districts, sought after for its culture and lively village atmosphere. The "village" prides itself on fashionable shops and restaurants and old pubs full of character. The area has a rich heritage and was home to distinguished residents such as Keats, Constable, William Blake, Dr Johnson and Sigmund Freud. Notably, Keats' house, where he wrote "Ode to a Nightingale", fell in love with Fanny Brawne and from where he left for his fatal trip to Rome, is now open to the public. We look forwards to welcoming you to London. We have the makings of an outstanding scientific meeting, with opportunities to meet old friends and to make new ones. See you in January 2010!
