JOINT ROYAL COLLEGE / SARS FELLOWSHIPS

Joint SARS / RCS England Surgical Reseach Fellowship

In 1992, SARS awarded a one year Joint Surgical Research Fellowship in collaboration with The Royal College of Surgeons of England to:

Mr John Conti, Division of Cancer at the Southampton General Hospital
Project: 'Do hepatic stellate cells regulate the growth of colorectal cancer metastases'. It has recently been extended for a further 6 months and is due to be completed in May 2005. Mr Conti presented his work at the recent SARS Annual Meeting in Newcastle.

 

Joint SARS / RCS Ireland Fellowships

2004:
The RCSI are currently finalising details for the 2004 Fellowships and we hope to have three available.

2003:
Mr Jonathan McGuinness, for his project 'Omega 3 fatty acids reduce infarct size in the open chest model of cardiacischaemia reperfusion injury.' Professor David Bouchier Hayes, RCSI Department of Surgery hosted Dr McGuinness

Mr James Oliver Murphy, for his project 'Studies of chemoprevention of oesophageal adenocarcinoma by vitamin C in a rat model'. Professor John Reynolds, TCD Department of Surgery, is hosting Dr Murphy.

2002:
Dr Fergal J Fleming for his project 'The role of nuclear coregulator proteins in estrogen receptor function '. Mr Arnold Hill and Professor Niall O'Higgins hosted Dr Fleming.
